glacier build technician

At Glacier, we are taking on one of the world’s most pressing problems: trash. Did you know that in the US, we send over half of our recyclables to the landfill? We're working to fix that. In doing so, we’ll also be reducing carbon emissions, energy consumption, and depletion of natural resources.

Glacier builds custom sorting robots designed to sort apart recyclables as well as AI-powered business analytics that enable recyclers to superpower their plants and improve our society’s circularity. These two products together are helping to divert tons of recyclables (literally!) from landfills every day. We’re looking for a talented Project Engineer to lead and streamline the deployment of our growing fleet of robots and AI scanners so we can maximize our environmental impact.

About us:
As part of our small, growing team based in SF, you’ll have a major role in shaping Glacier’s future.
We started Glacier to have a major positive environmental impact, and we are searching for teammates who share in that mission.
We’re backed by top-tier VCs and angels with extensive technical and industry expertise.
We have several robots in production at customer sites and a robust pipeline of upcoming deployments.

About the role:
We’re looking for a self-motivated build technician to own the in-house building and testing of Glacier’s products and associated hardware, including field deployments, internal development prototypes, and product refurbishments. You will also be responsible for the organization and maintenance of our lab, fabrication facilities, tools, and related supplies. You’ll collaborate with our R&D and field service engineers to refine our technical documents, such as assembly standard operating procedures (SOPs) and test protocols.

Your responsibilities:
Own, manage, and perform our in-house robot and scanner builds and testing, following instructions provided by the engineering teams, as we continue to scale our deployments to new customer sites across the country
Provide feedback to engineers regarding build design and instructions
Assist our operations team with customer installs and associated packing, including up to a few days per month of travel and working an occasional overnight or weekend shift
Perform incoming inspection of custom parts, following part drawings
Support development projects, as time allows, by performing prototype assembly, installations on our test robot, development updates to our plan-of-record (POR) system, and system performance and reliability testing
Organize and maintain our build facilities, tools, and related supplies

Requirements:
(If you don't think you meet all of the criteria but are excited about us, please reach out anyway!)

Proficiency with tools and equipment commonly used in a hardware manufacturing environment, such as hand tools, power tools (electric/air), measurement tools, and electrical tools (multimeter and similar)
2+ years professional experience assembling robotic systems or similar complex machinery
Ability to occasionally move items weighing up to 50 lbs around install/build sites, with reasonable accommodations
Proficiency in reading and comprehending technical documents, such as assembly SOPs and test processes.
Ability to work from our San Francisco office (SOMA neighborhood) on most days of the week
Ability to travel and work on-site occasionally (typically up to a week at a time), including some nights and weekends
Prior experience in a robotics or technology-based manufacturing setting is a plus.
Knowledge of electrical circuits, mechanical components, and sensors commonly used in robotics or automation systems is a plus
Bonus points if you have experience with ubuntu, python, and bash

Compensation:
The total cash compensation range for this role is $60,000 - $110,000. In addition to cash compensation, Glacier also offers competitive equity compensation and benefits. The final compensation for this role will depend on many individualized factors, including job-related skills and knowledge, experience level, interview performance, and other factors.
