Anaergia (TSX: ANRG), a global leader in offering sustainable solutions for the generation of renewable energy and the conversion of waste to resources, is looking for a full time Senior Accountant that will handle the following tax functions for the North American region.

Job Overview:

This will be the company’s first dedicated tax hire, and as such, will require the ability to roll up the sleeves and organize the processes. This is a crucial role for our organization and one that provides a fantastic opportunity to build the tax foundation that we will leverage for years to come.

The role will report to the North American Controller and will work closely with our external tax service providers. Based in Carlsbad, California.

Essential Functions and Key Responsibilities:

  • Owns the sales and use tax matrixes in the US and documentation of sales and use summaries of North American projects and facilities, organizes the sales and use tax exemption certifications in the US for North American customers and vendors, and works with third parties to respond to technical issues as necessary.
  • Owns the CAEFTA reporting process in the US for tax exemption for submittal semi-annually.
  • Owns the property tax reporting process and works with third parties to organize data, file and pay timely.
  • Organizes the various Form 3522 filing requirements in the state of California performed by third parties and ensures payments on such filings are made timely.
  • Owns the supporting work papers required for the filing of the Form 5471 and 5472 performed by third parties and ensures payments on such filings are made timely.
  • Owns the quarterly estimated revenue calculations and organizes the 3536 filings performed by third parties and ensures payments on such filings are made timely.
  • Owns the preparation and reporting process for monthly and quarterly HST (VAT) returns for Canadian entities.
  • Works in conjunction with our tax preparers to accumulate and organize the data required to file the annual Canadian Income Tax returns as well as the T106 and T1134 filings.
  • Assists in the organization of various supporting documents for annual income tax filings such as Form 1120 required by third parties and ensures payments on such filings are made timely.
  • Assists the AP Manager annually with the coordination of the 1099 supporting documents required by third parties.
  • Assists with the coordination of inquiries to third parties for technical topics of general tax matters as necessary such as payroll tax inquiries.
  • Assists with the coordination of R&D tax credit analyses with third parties.
  • Assists with the coordination of inquiries to third parties for tax matters related to the Inflation Reduction Act.
  • Performs other responsibilities as required to complete monthly close procedures in North America.

Education, Work Experience, and Professional Certifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 3-4 years of public accounting experience in tax
  • Experience with US GAAP & IFRS Application of new accounting standards preferred (e.g., revenue recognition, leases)
  • Experience in the construction and/or renewable energy industries preferred
  • CPA/CPA-candidate preferred
