Job Summary:

The Software Engineer I (SE I) is a full-stack web-application engineering role that codes and
tests complex modules and applications for RoadRunner’s business needs. A SE I takes an
enterprise-wide, architectural view of our technology platform and uses the technical stack
that best meets the needs of the platform. The SE I is involved in every part of the software
application build process from idea generation, business review, technical design, and uses
the latest technologies and design patterns.

Primary Duties Including % of time:

  • 70% - Writes code, debugs and performs unit testing in all application layers and data access layer in accordance with RoadRunner’s technical standards.
  • 10% - Participates in code reviews with manager to ensure accurate code and design techniques are being used and to further technical knowledge.
  • 20% - Assist in the full software lifecycle activities including project planning, requirement analysis, design, development, quality assurance and documentation.

  • Reports To: Software Engineering Manager
  • Direct Reports: None
  • Interacts with: Software Engineers, Product Management and Product Design Teams

Skills and Experience:

  • Proficiency in full stack web development.
  • 1+ year of experience with at least one popular front-end web framework and one back-end web framework.
  • Experience with Ruby on Rails and JavaScript/TypeScript is a plus
  • Basic understanding of database design and querying, including knowledge of SQL (e.g.
    PostgreSQL, MySQL)
  • Strong sense of curiosity and openness to using different technologies and continuing to
    strengthen their technical skill set.
  • Comfort with ambiguity, ability to act without having the whole picture using sound
    judgment and strong decision-making skills.
  • Passionate about business results and quality, with a strong sense of accountability,
    metrics and ownership.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to grasp the tactical details.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, multi-task and effectively prioritize conflicting
    assignments with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to influence and collaborate at all levels and across all functions of the
    organization.
  • Proven ability to organize/manage multiple priorities coupled with the flexibility to
    quickly adapt to ever changing business needs.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in computer science, engineering or related field
