Location

  • This role will require location in Southern Ohio initially (or >50% travel) for approximately 12 months to support the first commercial plant with operations and gain technological understanding for the future expansions. Final site location can be discussed around Orlando, FL, Augusta, GA, and possible other locations.

The Process Engineer is responsible for providing engineering and technical support for PureCycle. This includes supporting all facilities for design and operation. This role will be a corporate role and report to the Director of Engineering. The initial focus will be to aid with optimization of daily operations at the Ironton Facility and to develop best practices, future capital opportunities, and improve the design of future plants. For the first few months, the Process Engineer will aid the site engineers in both day to day, short-term initiatives as well as long-term efforts to drive continuous improvement in the areas of process safety, operational capability, cost control, and overall manufacturing efficiencies.

Essential Responsibilities & Duties

  • Actively participates in and adheres to all company safety programs and goals
  • Provides technical support and engineering expertise to resolve operational problems

  • Reviews and discusses design changes and improvement opportunities with operations, engineering, and project teams
  • Develops scopes for improvement projects for engineering project teams and can be called upon to lead the project through implementation and closeout
  • Assists in the design, procurement, and installation of new equipment
  • Reviews data packages and drawings from vendors for errors and improvements
  • Provides technical support for maintaining and advancing Process Safety Management (PSM) requirements and initiatives as required including participation in Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) reviews, incident investigations, etc.
  • Participates in Management of Change (MOC) process to control and manage proposed process modifications
  • Helps to develop site operating procedures and participates in Operator training for projects and improvements
  • Uses statistical techniques to evaluate and improve process capabilities
  • Investigates innovative technologies and equipment modifications to improve safety, environmental compliance, reliability, and operational efficiency

Basic Qualifications (Required)

  • Accredited Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering
  • 4+ years of work experience in the chemical manufacturing industry
  • Demonstrated critical thinking, process troubleshooting, and complex problem-solving skills
  • Effective writing, listening, and verbal communication skillset
  • Ability to clearly communicate with leadership, employees, contractors, vendors, and customers
  • Ability to lead and contribute as part of cross functional teams
  • Desire to learn, accept new challenges, and willingness to grow and advance within the company
  • Ability to work independently or cooperatively to deliver required results
  • Exhibit initiative to identify and complete tasks necessary to support site operations
  • Awareness of Federal and State EPA, OSHA, PSM, EHS and DOT regulations
  • Knowledge of standard chemical industry standards such as API, ASME, RAGAGEP, etc. and permitting processes
  • Proficient with the use of Microsoft Office product suite
  • Ability to, on a non-routine basis, work weekends, holidays and respond to emergency callouts

Preferred Qualifications

  • 6+ years of relevant work experience
  • Engineering design experience is a plus but not required.
  • Industry experience and familiarity in the handling of flammable materials; polymer experience is preferred.
  • Familiarity with engineering tools such as Aspen Engineering, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and similar
  • Experience with Emerson DeltaV process control platform and configuration or similar DCS
  • Experience site commissioning/startup activities
  • Experience with corporate and plant level project management, project management certification a plus
