Job Summary:

We are seeking an Environmental Engineer to join the Plastics HSE team. The candidate is expected to support the team by being responsible for the administration, planning, coordination, and implementation of environmental management systems to ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local environmental regulations. The candidate is also expected to work with other engineering disciplines to develop new environmental management systems or update existing ones alongside new plant expansions or developments.

Responsibilities:

  • Support HSE department in the development and implementation of programs that ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Work with HSE and other plant departments to lead the creation of environmental improvement plans.
  • Work with on-site personnel to ensure compliance with all on-site environmental permits.
  • Responsible for monitoring the compliance server and reacting to any issues with data collection.
  • Manage, organize, and interpret large environmental data sets.
  • Ensure accurate completion and timely submittal of regulatory compliance submittals and reports.
  • Monthly compilation and analysis of KPI data to ensure compliance with operating permits and regulatory requirements, and management systems.
  • Ensure adherence to Environmental Compliance Calendar.
  • Support all compliance audits/inspections.
  • Participate as an environmental representative in HAZOPs and design reviews.
  • Ensure all Environmental incidents are properly contained and investigated to root cause determination, corrective actions are implemented, and reporting is completed.
  • Support the HSE Committee and serve as a member of various site teams.
  • Support facility environmental performance systems, including air permit, wastewater permits and associated sampling requirements, solid waste, stormwater, Haz/Non-Haz/Universal waste, SPCC, etc.

Success Criteria (what success will look like in this role):

  • Maintain compliance with all permits and regulations, with emphasis on air permitting.
  • Continue to move the business into ongoing environmental excellence.
  • Develop processes, with results, that improve the performance of all environmental programs and systems.
  • Build and execute roadmap for international standard for environmental management systems (EMS), ISO 14001.
  • Report environmental compliance on time and accurately.
  • Champion membership to Indiana’s Environmental Stewardship Program (ESP).
  • Maintain compliance with EPA Risk Management Tier II Program.

Experience & Professional Qualifications:

  • 2+ years Environmental Compliance experience required. Experience in oil and gas industry and/or chemical manufacturing facilities preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field (Environmental Science or Technology) required.
  • Experience in creating and managing various environmental programs.
  • Familiarity with Tier II reporting, TRI reporting, EPCRA and CFATS preferred.
  • Experience managing various permit types, including all associated data analysis.
  • Able to manage and organize large data sets.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office programs.
  • Strong oral and written communication, including the ability to effectively present to large and small groups.
  • Ability to problem solve and lead by example.
  • Organized and detail oriented.
  • Able to work with people of diverse backgrounds and education levels.
  • Audit job task and work locations and recommend / implement improvements.
  • Ability to work independently and take direction as needed.
  • Previous Environmental Compliance experience dealing with high hazards sites preferred.
  • Experienced in management of environmental consultants, EPC contractors, vendors and operations preferred.
  • Above average proficiency in air permitting and Clean Air Act regulations, proficiency in waste, wastewater regulations and waste regulations and requirements preferred.
  • Able to lift 50 lbs. and climb ladders as needed to perform inspections of operations areas.

Salary:

  • $90k-$100k per year
