We are currently searching for a Lead Engineer specializing in Advanced Electrical Systems to join our team, to help us grow and scale and continue our tradition of success. The Lead Engineer is responsible for building and leading a team to design and develop advanced electrical systems including Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and other safety features. The Lead Engineer will also play a key role in the development of future battery electric and hybrid power vehicles.

This role is very critical to our extreme growth and the ideal candidate will be an experienced engineer with a business mind, a savvy leader, very organized, and familiar with heavy truck or automotive product development. The successful candidate is also comfortable with the intricacies of a fast-paced environment, has a strong desire for growth and is a great communicator.

This position is a hybrid role that can be conducted in a remote location primarily but will require at least 25% regular travel to the Battle Motors facility in New Philadelphia, OH.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Interact with stakeholders to understand high-level product feature descriptions, and write vehicle, system, and component level requirements for feature development. Document requirements in JAMA.
  • Lead cross-functional teams through system and feature level HARA and DFMEA. Be in-house expert in Functional Safety per ISO 26262.
  • Design and develop safety feature systems per customer and stakeholder requirements, including development of system architecture, boundary diagrams, and component selection.
  • Own system documentation and validation plans, per Systems V-model.
  • Conduct system performance simulations with MATLAB/Simulink. Integrate system models into TruckSim vehicle models.
  • Support development of new battery electric and hybrid vehicle powertrains through knowledge of electrical system design fundamentals, power electronics, motors/inverters, and battery systems.
  • Interact with suppliers, dealers, and customers as required.
  • Other duties as requested, directed, or assigned.
  • Be comfortable with complex problem solving and rapidly changing priorities.
Requirements

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Master’s degree in electrical engineering, or other engineering discipline with relevant experience.
  • 8-10 years of experience developing electrical and safety systems in the automotive, commercial truck, or heavy equipment industry is required. Class 6/7/8 truck chassis is highly desired.
  • Knowledge of sensor integration, data fusion, machine learning, and computer vision techniques.
  • Knowledge of automotive communication protocols, including CAN bus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, required; experience using ERP and CRM programs desired.

Preferred experience and skills

  • Programming skills in C/C++ or Python.
  • Ability to effectively work as part of a team with demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Organizational skills and the ability to manage several different tasks/projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to communicate across the organization and lead presentations.
  • Recognize the Quality Management System in place at Battle Motors and participate in the processes and procedures in the QMS ISO 9001:2015
