Role Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Senior Accountant to take ownership of the monthly financial reporting cycle, support business decision-making, and oversee core finance processes. This is a varied role offering exposure across management accounting, transactional finance, and operational support. This is a broad position ideal for a hands-on professional who is comfortable managing both management accounts and transactional finance. The successful candidate will thrive in a small to medium-sized business environment, enjoy autonomy, and seek a role with wide-ranging responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
Management Accounts
- Prepare and deliver accurate monthly management accounts in a timely manner.
- Post and review key journals, including those for payroll, depreciation, intercompany transactions, foreign exchange adjustments, accruals and prepayments, and work in progress (WIP).
- Support monthly performance reviews with departmental heads by providing insightful variance analysis.
- Assist in the preparation and submission of monthly and quarterly reporting packs for Group consolidation.
Purchase Ledger
- Oversee the purchase ledger, ensuring all supplier invoices are processed and recorded accurately and on schedule.
Sales Ledger
- Manage a high-value sales ledger, maintaining robust controls over billing accuracy and revenue recognition.
Payroll
- Collate and prepare payroll data for submission to external accountants.
- Liaise with payroll providers to ensure payroll is processed accurately and on time for a small workforce.
Cash & Bank Management
- Perform regular bank reconciliations and maintain precise cash records.
- Monitor and manage cash receipts and payments to ensure effective cash flow control.
- Take responsibility for the payment run process, ensuring that all payments follow appropriate controls and approval workflows.
- Manage purchase order (PO) processes and authorisation workflows to support financial governance.
Additional Responsibilities
- Contribute to process improvement and efficiency initiatives within the finance function and across the wider business.
Competencies and Experience:
Systems & Technical Skills
- Excel – Proficient (essential; including data analysis and reporting)
- Microsoft Word – Proficient
- Experience with accounting systems:
- Dynamics 365 (proficient)
- Sage (desirable; legacy system exposure)
Skills & Experience Required
- CIMA qualified / part-qualified or Qualified by Experience (QBE)
- Minimum of five years' accounting experience, ideally in a similar capacity
- Strong understanding of month-end processes and financial reporting
- Exceptional attention to detail and high level of accuracy
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities effectively
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage with non-finance stakeholders
Desirable Attributes
- Experience in a group reporting environment
- Exposure to multi-currency or intercompany accounting
- Previous involvement in process improvements or system changes
