Summary of Position:
This is a high-growth position that will play a critical role in accounting matters and processes related to revenue and cost recognition under percentage-of-completion for both IFRS and U.S. GAAP. This role will also assist with the financial reporting process related to construction accounting for North America.
The role will report to VP Controller and will work closely with our external CPA firm (Deloitte). It is a North American role and a hybrid position based in Carlsbad office, California, where there is a good accounting and tax team in place to work with.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and oversee the daily operations of the North American accounting department related to construction projects and related accounting.
- Manage Monthly IFRS and GAAP financial reporting related to construction accounting, including the preparation of monthly, quarterly, annual project workpapers, project summaries, financial statements and other management reports for several legal construction entities.
- Submit timely and accurate monthly financial workbooks related to revenue and cost recognition under the percentage-of-completion method.
- Develop a monthly review process to ensure adequate accuracy of all account reconciliations related to construction projects, which includes intercompany and balance sheet accounting.
- Streamline the procedures and manage the process of month-end closing related to entities related to construction projects under the percentage-of-completion method.
- Support the construction accounting process as necessary including the review of journal entries, and the review of technically challenging accounting transactions.
- Support technical memos and technical checklists related to revenue and cost recognition.
- Support the annual audit process for public reporting requirements for construction segment.
- Implement and maintain financial reporting processes related to projects on a percentage-of-completion basis and maintain accounting of legal entities in which those projects occur.
- Assist in the annual budgeting process as it relates to construction projects.
- Assist in the automation projects of construction accounting workpapers and their workflow in relation to the Company’s ERP.
- Perform other activities and special projects, as needed.
- Ensure compliance with statutory reporting requirements.
Job Requirements:
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting with a CPA and prior Public Accounting experience required
- Experience in Financial Reporting and Management Reporting on a global basis
- Knowledge and experience of IFRS
- Extensive accounting experience and ability and desire to get actively involved and roll up your sleeves to get the work done
- Ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced environment
- Exposure to global entities and global teams, including foreign currency transactions, multi-company consolidations and inter-company reconciliations
- Previous experience as a hands-on Manager in a company with long-term infrastructure type projects, where project accounting and POC revenue recognition are used on a daily basis, is very critical
- Ability to execute and follow-through to produce complete, accurate and timely deliverables
- Attention to detail and accuracy are required
- Must be able to work independently, think critically and apply consistent standards in work with frequent changes in company requirements
- Must also be proactive and flexible in an environment with frequent interruptions and changing priorities
