Since its founding in 2004, Agilyx is committed to finding ways of turning waste plastics into renewable and valuable resources. Agilyx has leveraged the success of the generation 7 plant design in Oregon to develop business development opportunities and contractual agreements to design full-scale conversion facilities utilizing Agilyx pyrolysis technology. As such, Agilyx is needing to increase its technical bandwidth concerning equipment design to keep pace with market demand for Agilyx equipment.
Product Engineer Overview
This person is responsible for developing and translating our technological know-how and learnings into industrial equipment or technology offerings. These offerings are provided to both internal and external clients and partners as a critical process step in producing the intended product. The Agilyx Product Engineer will leverage his or her exceptional leadership, commercial and technical skills to ensure that all of Agilyx equipment designs are aligned with design specifications. The Agilyx Product Engineer will manage teams made up of both internal and 3rd party resources. This role requires a hands-on, knowledgeable, highly responsive team player who is a self-starter, resourceful, brings creativity and strong interpersonal skills to the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Leads the product development and design of plastic and chemical processing equipment to ensure that Agilyx supplied equipment meets technical, commercial, and financial specifications and is perceived by customers as adding high value to their operations.
- Develops specifications for equipment by coordinating and compiling input from cross functional teams, suppliers, and target markets.
- Identifies, evaluates, and qualifies suppliers of technology, equipment and services that fill needs within Agilyx.
- Ensures that the design of equipment is aligned with the core capabilities of our manufacturing and supply chain as it pertains to fabrication cost targets, lead time, safety and core capabilities.
- Works in concert with Agilyx Fabrication and Procurement staff to ensure that our network of fabricators and suppliers are aligned with our equipment designs.
- In collaboration with Agilyx operations, customer support and, directly with our clients, monitors the performance of our core equipment to identify, develop and deliver product design enhancements that address product performance problems and drives innovation.
- Provides engineering support to client projects lead by our project management team.
Qualifications
Experience/Knowledge
- Minimum of 5-7 years’ experience with leading the engineering and design of large capital fluid handling equipment in the chemical and/or oil/gas industry. Preference given to candidates with experience and expertise in high temperature (400F to 1,500F) processing equipment design.
- Minimum of 5-7 years’ experience leading cross function teams that deliver equipment designs that meet design and commercial specifications.
- An aptitude for developing solutions to customer problems and driving innovation for the purpose of maximizing customer perceived value in a company’s product portfolio.
- A proven ability to develop equipment designs that are supportive of the financial goals of the client and create a positive experience for those that operate the equipment.
- While this position will not be operating CAD systems on a regular basis, this position will need to have intimate working knowledge of CAD tools such as Solidworks and Inventor.
- Analytical aptitude to support the assessment and verification of external equipment designs.
- Understanding of general finance, budgeting, and cost accounting methodologies with the ability to leverage this information to positively affect product strategy.
- Ability to build consensus and relationships among managers, partners, and employees.
- Excellent judgment regarding health, safety, environmental guidelines, rules and regulations as they pertain to equipment design and chemical plant operation.
- Familiarity with regulatory affairs, including OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration), EPA (Environmental Protection Agency), and state agencies strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with ASME Codes, including Boiler Pressure Vessel codes and B31.3.
- This role will be routinely facilitating internal discussions to manage the product portfolio and will need excellent organizational and teamwork skills.
- Excellent communication skills both verbally and in writing.
Education/Training
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, preferably in mechanical or chemical engineering or equivalent experience

Position Mechanics
Reports to: Agilyx Product Manager
Type: Salaried, exempt; full time
Work Hours: Generally, 8:00-5:00. Agilyx has offices and projects globally, so there will be occasional evening and weekend work.
Staff: None
Location: Remote (preferred Houston, TX/surrounding southern states or Portsmouth, NH)
Work environment: professional office and manufacturing
Travel: Up to 25% Travel may be required
Physical Demands can vary between work performed in an office environment to that of equipment operators.
Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship for employment visa status.
